On 21st November 2024,the field team members of SLTP partners participated in their quarterly call and knowledge exchange session.
Dr. Nikhil Bangar, a wildlife veterinarian who has worked extensively in central India, was invited as a guest speaker to discuss the role of wildlife veterinarians in conservation, wildlife management, and the rehabilitation of wildlife populations in tiger landscapes.
The session was both informative and interactive, with Dr. Bangar highlighting the key responsibilities of wildlife veterinarians. He emphasized the importance of understanding wildlife behavior, local vegetation, and water sources to perform their tasks effectively. He also addressed the need for disease surveillance in domestic animals near tiger reserves, the risk of disease transmission between domestic animals and wildlife, and the crucial role vets play in educating local communities.
We extend our gratitude to Dr. Bangar and look forward to hosting more such sessions in the future to enhance knowledge exchange on conservation practices.
